Now That I'm 5

Friday was Madalyn's 5th birthday. My sister Beth, who is Madalyn's Godmother, and I have started a tradition that we make Madalyn's birthday cake every year. It started when she was 1 and Beth made her smash cake. We've gone from a little ladybug to this.....a castle.

It went with her princess tea party theme and seemed like something we could handle. Well this finished product turned out FANTASTIC, Madalyn LOVED it beyond belief, and it was somewhat tasty. The frosting isn't meant to be tasty, just effective for decorating. We were up until 12:30 decorating, so this was by far our most lofty undertaking to date. This was for her family party that night with grandparents, godparents, great-grandmother's, and aunts and uncles....a possible total of 38!!

We started her birthday morning with a candle in a cupcake and sing "happy birthday". When else can you eat a cupcake for breakfast??!! Then we had breakfast and got dressed in her Sleeping Beauty dress and shoes. All the girls dressed in princess costumes. They showed up at 10, we made princess hats and wands, had a pinata and played pin the crown on the princess. Then we served lunch and cake and opened presents. Parents were already arriving by the time we got to the presents. It was hectic, but Madalyn LOVED it! Here's the gang...

After the party goers left, it was time to make the homemade spaghetti sauce for the pasta that Madalyn requested for dinner. Then her family party began at 5 that night. It was a great day all around, but man were we tired. The rest of the weekend we tried to take it easy and get ready for her first day of school....which will lead me to the next post!
